Weather

Today we began our science unit on weather. What's the best way to actually observe the weather? Well, by going outside of course! We enjoyed the gorgeous weather and illustrated pictures from what the students noticed about today's weather as well as the types of activities people could do on a cool, sunny, and windy day like today.

Students now have access to THOUSANDS of books (many of which have RR quizzes) from home or school! Students can read these books on any computer, tablet, or phone that has internet capability. We are EXTREMELY excited about getting to use this amazing resource!!!!

Chris Van Allsburg Projects

After creating a language chart using 5 Chris Van Allsburg books, students worked together on a project utilizing one of the books we had read and discussed. Groups were responsible for choosing jobs for their group that week, retelling the story using a flow map, making inferences using their background knowledge and the clues in the text, defining and illustrating vocabulary from the book, and comparing their book to another book written by Chris Van Allsburg.

I am so PROUD of how well each group worked together to accomplish each task as a TEAM! Your posters showed your thinking and also looked attractive.

Inferencing Investigators!

We are Inferencing Investigators! We used our background knowledge and clues from the text to make inferences while reading The Stranger by Chris Van Allsburg. Check out our inferences from our gallery walk!

Pop Rocks + Coke = ????

DID YOU KNOW.......

that Pop Rocks mixed with Coke can partially blow up a balloon?

During our solids and liquids unit in science, we discovered that a gas was created when we mixed together Pop Rocks and Coke.

Check it out!

Sums

During our addition unit, each group received a circle map with a different sum. Each student was responsible for creating a word problem that equaled the sum their group received. Many students chose to create more that one problem!

Pumpkin Book Reports

I hope you enjoyed working on your Pumpkin Book Reports. I know I enjoyed listening to everyone's presentation and seeing your pumpkin characters! They were all so creative.

Chris Van Allsburg Author Study

Last week, we read 5 Chris Van Allsburg books and discussed the characters, setting, plot and made inferences, connections, observations, and wonderings by writing quick writes on sticky notes. Check out all of our thinking!

Check back soon to see how we became experts on one of the books written by Chris Van Allsburg....

Oobleck!

In science, we've been learning about solids and liquids. We read the story Bartholemew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss and created our own oobleck! After making it, we noticed that oobleck has both liquid and solid characteristics.
