Who says ROUNDING can't be fun?

In math this week, we learned how to round numbers to the tens and hundreds place. On Wednesday, students played a game called "Scoot" to practice rounding. Rounding cards were placed around the room and students only had a few minutes to answer the question they were at. Once the chimes were rung, they knew they needed to SCOOT!

A sticky note I found written by one of the students! Every teacher loves this kind of feedback :)

Chris Van Allsburg: Week 1

This week we began our novel study on Chris Van Allsburg. We learned about his history and read two of his books, The Garden of Abdul Gasazi and Jumanji.
We worked with a partner to define and illustrate a vocabulary word from, The Garden of Abdul Gasazi. Afterwards,  we presented our word/definition/illustration to the class.

Rounding

Remember:

5 or more,
let it soar!
4 or less,
let it rest!

The Garden of Abdul Gasazi

Yesterday, we began our novel study on Chris Van Allsburg. Today, we read the story The Garden of Abdul Gasazi. While reading this story, we had a short debate on whether the magician, Abdul Gasazi, turned the dog, Fritz, into a duck or whether he tricked the boy.

What do you think happened? Did the magician turn the dog into a duck? Or, did he trick Alan into thinking he turned Fritz into a duck? Why do you think so?

Writing Songs!

We have been working hard on making our writing more descriptive while using the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, publishing)!

Check out some of the songs we've used to help us along the way...
